Gunshot-related myocardial injuries typically result from direct penetrating injury by the traversing bullet. Purpose: High-grade gliomas (HGG) represent a challenging subset of brain tumors characterized by aggressive nature and poor prognosis. Histopathology remains to be the standard for diagnosis, however, it is invasive, prone to sampling errors, and may not capture the full tumor heterogeneity and evolution over time. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the potential utility of circulating biomarkers, obtained through minimally-invasive liquid biopsies, providing an opportunity for diagnosis, prognostication, monitoring treatment response and developing targeted therapies.

VEGFA administration has been explored as a pro-angiogenic therapy for cardiovascular diseases including heart failure for several years, but with little success. Here, we investigate a different approach to augment VEGFA bioavailability: by deleting the VEGFA decoy receptor VEGFR1 (also known as FLT1), one can achieve more physiological VEGFA concentrations. We find that after cryoinjury, zebrafish flt1 mutant hearts display enhanced coronary revascularization and endocardial expansion, increased cardiomyocyte dedifferentiation and proliferation, and decreased scarring.
