Public health practitioners rely on timely surveillance data for planning and decision-making; however, surveillance data are often subject to delays. Epidemic trend categories, based on time-varying effective reproductive number (R) estimates that use nowcasting methods, can mitigate reporting lags in surveillance data and detect changes in community transmission before reporting is completed. CDC analyzed the performance of epidemic trend categories for COVID-19 during summer 2024 in the United States and at the state level in New Mexico.

Investigating health professionals' perspectives and experiences of food security-related conversations in diabetes care.

Aims: Household food insecurity (FI) is a serious public health concern and disproportionately affects people living with chronic health conditions, undermining diabetes self-management. Little is known about healthcare professionals' (HCPs) experiences of supporting people affected by diabetes and FI, and no national guidelines incorporate consideration of FI within UK diabetes care. A qualitative study of NHS HCPs' consideration of FI within diabetes care, and the extent to which it informs their clinical practice, was undertaken.

LYCHOS (GPR155) is a lysosomal transmembrane protein that functions as a cholesterol sensor, facilitating the cholesterol-dependent activation of the master protein kinase mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). However, the structural basis of LYCHOS assembly and activity remains unclear.

Glycemic Outcomes and Nurse Perceptions of Continuous Glucose Monitoring for Hospitalized Patients.

Background: Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) can decrease hypoglycemic events and health care costs; however, barriers and facilitators that influence CGM use are unknown.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate hypoglycemic events and cost outcomes after CGM implementation and describe associated barriers and facilitators.

Methods: A mixed-methods study design was used to evaluate CGM implementation on 2 pulmonary units within an academic health center.
