Review on Synthesis and Properties of Lithium Lanthanum Titanate.

The rapid development of portable electronic devices and the efforts to find alternatives to fossil fuels have triggered the rapid development of battery technology. The conventional lithium-ion batteries have reached a high degree of sophistication. However, improvements related to specific capacity, charge rate, safety and sustainability are still required.

Dissolution of Metals in Different Bromide-Based Systems: Electrochemical Measurements and Spectroscopic Investigations.

The dissolution of the main metals (Cu, Zn, Sn, Pb and Fe) found in waste printed circuit boards (WPCBs) was investigated by electrochemical corrosion measurements (potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS)) in different bromide-based systems that could be used as lixiviants in hydrometallurgical route of metals recovery. The analysis of the corrosion products was carried out by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurements. All measurements showed that the addition of bromine in the electrolyte favors to great extents the dissolution process of all studied metals as compared to bromine-free electrolytes.

Weight, lipids, glucose, and behavioral measures with ziprasidone treatment in a population with mental retardation.

Background: Atypical antipsychotics effectively reduce maladaptive behavior in individuals with mental retardation, yet bring significant weight gain and metabolic anomalies. Ziprasidone, a weight-neutral antipsychotic in patients with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder, has not been studied in a population with mental retardation and maladaptive behaviors.

Method: Forty patients with mental retardation and maladaptive behaviors who had gained excessive weight or were inadequately responsive to other agents were switched to ziprasidone.

Treatment of out-of-hospital status epilepticus with diazepam rectal gel.

Intravenous access cannot always be promptly obtained when treating status epilepticus outside the hospital. We compared the efficacy and safety of diazepam rectal gel to IV lorazepam in our long-term care facility for adults with developmental disabilities. Diazepam rectal gel was given more quickly and reliably, reducing total seizure time, potential neuronal injury and other complications.

Elevation of carbamazepine-10,11-epoxide by quetiapine.

A 52-year-old woman and a 56-year-old man who were receiving carbamazepine experienced markedly elevated levels of its active metabolite, carbamazepine-10,11-epoxide (CBZ-E), after starting quetiapine therapy. The CBZ-E:carbamazepine ratio increased 3-4-fold in each patient. Levels of CBZ-E returned to baseline after discontinuing this drug combination.
