Oxidative stress, that is, an unbalanced increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS), contributes to tumor-induced immune suppression and limits the efficacy of immunotherapy. Cancer cells have inherently increased ROS production, intracellularly through metabolic perturbations and extracellularly through activation of NADPH oxidases, which promotes cancer progression. Further increased ROS production or impaired antioxidant systems, induced, for example, by chemotherapy or radiotherapy, can preferentially kill cancer cells over healthy cells.

Using high-resolution electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) and self-potential (SP) geophysical methods, we characterized the heterogeneous MRVA aquifer and monitored groundwater flow near a pumping well. ERT was used to provide detailed spatial characterization, filling gaps left by airborne electromagnetic (AEM) data and soil boring logs, while SP techniques were used to monitor groundwater flow, predict drawdown trends, and investigate surface-groundwater interactions.

With youth (ages 15-26) often at critical points in development, they are vulnerable to long-term mental health challenges brought on by pandemic trauma.
Methods: To identify youth experiences throughout the pandemic and examine changes over time, we conducted semi-structured interviews among n = 141 youth in two Canadian provinces (Ontario and British Columbia) and across the country of Ireland at three time points over the course of more than one year (August 2020-October 2021).
