Predictors of caregiver burden after stroke in Nigeria: Effect on psychosocial well-being.

Background: Family caregivers (CGs) are critical to the care and recovery of stroke survivors (SSs), particularly in the community. However, little is known about their psychosocial well-being, especially in developing countries. In this study, we assessed CG burden, psychiatric morbidity, quality of life (QoL), and predictors of burden.

Edawu: a journey from in-patient rehabilitation to community-based treatment and rehabilitation in Nigeria.

Community-based rehabilitation is the strategy endorsed by the World Health Organization and other international bodies to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. In this article we trace the journey of Edawu, a mental health rehabilitation unit in a rural area of Benue State, Nigeria, from an in-patient rehabilitation unit to a community-focused service. The partnership of organisations from the UK with Edawu along the journey is also described.

Relationship between anxiety disorders and domains of health related quality of life among Nigerians with breast cancer.

Purpose: Health Related Quality of life (HRQoL) is increasingly recognised as an important indicator of outcome and well-being in oncology care. We set out in this study to evaluate whether significant association exists between anxiety disorders (ADs) and HRQoL in breast cancer, such that any intervention addressing ADs would potentially improve HRQoL.

Methods: A cross sectional evaluation of 200 attendees of an oncology clinic was done using designed questionnaire to gather socio-demographic and clinical data.

Psychological Distress and Emotional Pain Among Adult Attendees of a Dental Clinic: A Case-Control Study.

We set out to carry out a case-control evaluation of psychological distress and emotional pain among adult attendees of a Nigerian dental clinic. A total of 201 subjects, made up of 101 dental patients (test group) matched with age and sex with 100 normal subjects (controls), was recruited into the study. All participants completed a designed socio-demographic questionnaire.

Anxiety disorders in breast cancer: Prevalence, types, and determinants.

The coexistence of anxiety disorders among women with breast cancer has been linked with delay in diagnosis, treatment abandonment, and poor quality of life. This study investigated anxiety disorders with their determinants among 200 participants with histological diagnosis of breast cancer. A questionnaire was designed to elicit sociodemographic and clinical factors, while the schedule for clinical assessment in neuropsychiatry (SCAN) was used to ascertain the presence of anxiety disorders.
