A retrospective, multicentric, nationwide analysis of the impact of splenectomy on survival of pancreatic cancer patients.

Objective: Splenectomy is regularly performed in total and distal pancreatectomy due to technical reasons, lymph node dissection and radicality of the operation. However, the spleen serves as an important organ for competent immune function, and its removal is associated with an increased incidence of cancer and a worse outcome in some cancer entities (Haematologica 99:392-398, 2014; Dis Colon Rectum 51:213-217, 2008; Dis Esophagus 21:334-339, 2008). The impact of splenectomy in pancreatic cancer is not fully resolved (J Am Coll Surg 188:516-521, 1999; J Surg Oncol 119:784-793, 2019).

Virtual reality in surgery: minimizing stress and pain in patients undergoing minor-surgical procedures under local anesthesia-results of a feasibility study.

Background: Virtual reality (VR) technology has gained significant importance in medical practice, particularly as an innovative approach to enhance patient experience and comfort. This prospective feasibility study investigates the impact of using VR headsets on stress and pain reduction during port surgeries under local anesthesia.

Methods: In this prospective analysis, patients undergoing port implantation at the Klinikum rechts der Isar Technical University Munich were divided into two groups.

Configuration of anastomotic doughnuts of stapled anastomoses in upper gastrointestinal surgery is associated with anastomotic leakage.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the configuration of anastomotic doughnuts from upper gastrointestinal surgeries was associated with anastomotic leakage (AL).

Background: AL is a severe postoperative complication after upper gastrointestinal cancer surgeries. AL is associated with an increase in overall and cancer-related morbidity and mortality in patients with esophageal and gastric cancer.

S2k-Guideline hand antisepsis and hand hygiene.

The consensus-based guideline "hand antisepsis and hand hygiene" for Germany has the following sections: Prevention of nosocomial infections by hygienic hand antisepsis, prevention of surgical site infections by surgical hand antisepsis, infection prevention in the community by hand antisepsis in epidemic or pandemic situations, hand washing, selection of alcohol-based hand rubs and wash lotions, medical gloves and protective gloves, preconditions for hand hygiene, skin protection and skin care, quality assurance of the implementation of hand hygiene measures and legal aspects. The guideline was developed by the German Society for Hospital Hygiene in cooperation with 22 professional societies, 2 professional organizations, the German Care Council, the Federal Working Group for Self-Help of People with Disabilities and Chronic Illness and their Family Members, the General Accident Insurance Institution Austria and the German-speaking Interest Group of Infection Prevention Experts and Hospital Hygiene Consultants.

Echocardiography predictors of sustained sinus rhythm after cardioversion of supraventricular arrhythmia in patients with septic shock.

Purpose: The echocardiography parameters may predict the maintenance of sinus rhythm after cardioversion of a supraventricular arrhythmia (SVA).

Materials And Methods: Patients in septic shock with onset of an SVA, normal to moderately reduced LV systolic function (EF_LV˃̳35%) and on a continuous noradrenaline of <1.0 μg/kg.
