Polycomb Protein BMI1 Regulates Osteogenic Differentiation of Human Adipose Tissue-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells Downstream of GSK3.

Polycomb proteins such as the B lymphoma Mo-MLV insertion region 1 homolog (BMI1) are essential chromatin factors for the self-renewal and differentiation of embryonic and adult stem cells. BMI1 also plays a critical role in osteogenesis as Bmi1-deficient mice display a skeletal phenotype caused by the exhaustion of the mesenchymal stem cell pool. In this study, we have studied the role of BMI1 in the osteogenic differentiation of human adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hASCs).

The impact of task relevance and degree of distraction on stimulus processing.

Background: The impact of task relevance on event-related potential amplitudes of early visual processing was previously demonstrated. Study designs, however, differ greatly, not allowing simultaneous investigation of how both degree of distraction and task relevance influence processing variations. In our study, we combined different features of previous tasks.

Heterogeneity in endometrial expression of aromatase in polyp-bearing uteri.

Background: Comparative assessment of expression of aromatase (CYP19A1) messenger RNA (mRNA) in pathological and non-pathological sites within the uterine cavity of mid reproductive age women diagnosed with endometrial polyp (EP).

Methods: We report a case series of seven premenopausal infertile women undergoing hyseroscopic removal of EP. Directed endometrial biopsies were collected from the EP (P), from the endometrium immediately adjoining the EP (A) and from a normal appearing site remote from the EP (R).

Monitoring of PCDD/Fs in a mountain forest by means of active and passive sampling.

Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/F) are sampled and investigated in a forested area in Middle-Europe. The campaigns, consisting in active and passive samplings, were conducted in the Bavarian and Bohemian Forest at four sites chosen for their similar soil and forest stand characteristics. Passive sampling was conducted using both semi-permeable membrane devices (SPMDs) and needles of well-exposed dominant spruce trees.
