Interperformer coordination in piano-singing duo performances: phrase structure and empathy impact.

Musicians' body motion plays a fundamental role in ensemble playing, by supporting sound production, communication, and expressivity. This research investigates how Western classical musicians' head motion during ensemble performances relates to a piece's phrase structure and musicians' empathic perspective taking (EPT) profile. Twenty-four advanced piano and singing students took part in the study, and their EPT score was pre-assessed using the Interpersonal Reactivity Index.

Some international perspectives on legislation for the management of human-induced safety risks.

Legislation that governs the health and safety of communities near major-hazard installations in South Africa is largely based on existing legislation that had been developed in the United Kingdom and other European Union countries. The latter was developed as a consequence of several major human-induced technological disasters in Europe. The history of the evolution of health-and-safety legislation for the protection of vulnerable communities in European Union (EU) countries, France, Malaysia and the USA is explored through a literature survey.

Acceptability and preferences of six different routes of drug application for acute breathlessness: a comparison study between the United Kingdom and Germany.

Background: Opioids are the drugs of choice for management of breathlessness in advanced disease, but acute episodic breathlessness remains difficult to manage. New routes of opioid applications with quicker onset of action seem attractive for the management of episodic breathlessness.

Objective: This study aimed to determine the acceptability and preference of different routes of opioid applications in patients suffering from breathlessness due to advanced disease.

Inhibition of human placental aromatase in a perfusion model. Comparison with kinetic, cell-free experiments.

In vitro perfusion of human placenta was evaluated for characterization of aromatase inhibitors. The results were compared with those in kinetic experiments in cell-free system. Inhibition constants (Ki) were determined by measuring the release of tritiated water during coincubation of human placenta microsomes with varying amounts of [1 beta,2 beta 3H]androstenedione and inhibitor in the presence of NADPH-generating system.
