Left ventricular myocardial deformation in patients on maintenance haemodialysis.

Background: Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing maintenance haemodialysis (MHD) develop several abnormalities of left ventricular (LV) structure and function. Speckle-tracking echocardiography permits compressive assessment of LV myocardial deformation. Previous studies involving CKD patients have shown a significant reduction in LV global longitudinal strain (GLS) with strong prognostic implications.

Role of Induction in a Haplomatch, Related, Low-Risk, Living-Donor Kidney Transplantation with Triple Drug Immunosuppression: A Single-Center Study.

Background: The role of induction in low-risk, living-donor kidney transplants being treated with tacrolimus, mycophenolate mofetil, and prednisolone is debatable.

Materials And Methods: This was a retrospective study that consisted of patients undergoing living kidney transplantation between February 2010 and June 2021 with a related haplomatch donor, with maintenance immunosuppression of tacrolimus, mycophenolate mofetil, and prednisolone. High-risk transplants, such as second or more transplants, immunologically incompatible transplants, and steroid-free transplants, were excluded.

Inspite of exerting independent cellular functions, the endoplasmic-reticulum (ER) and the mitochondria also physically connect at specific sites termed mitochondria-associated ER membranes (MAMs) and these sites consist of several tethering proteins that play varied roles in diverse cellular processes. However, the regulation of these tethering proteins within the cell is relatively less studied. Here, we show that several MAM proteins are significantly altered in the liver during diabetes and among these, the lncRNA, H19 regulates the levels of VDAC1.

Accomplished women leaders in informatics: insights about successful careers.

We sought to learn from the experiences of women leaders in informatics by interviewing women in Informatics leadership roles. Participants reported career challenges, how they built confidence, advice to their younger selves, and suggestions for attracting and retaining additional women. Respondents were 16 women in leadership roles in academia (n = 9) and industry (n = 7).
