Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is often regarded as the archetypal progressive fibrosing interstitial lung disease (ILD). The term "progressive pulmonary fibrosis" (PPF) generally describes progressive lung fibrosis in an individual with an ILD other than IPF. Both IPF and PPF are associated with loss of lung function, worsening dyspnea and quality of life, and premature death.

Background: Almost half of all women will have at least one symptomatic urinary tract infection (UTI) in their lifetime. Although usually self-remitting, 74% of women contacting a health professional are prescribed an antibiotic, and in rare instances, they may progress to more severe infections. Therefore, the standard of care for the treatment of symptomatic uncomplicated UTIs is oral antibiotic therapy, which aims to achieve symptom resolution and prevent the development of complications such as pyelonephritis.

  • The study aimed to compare the baseline FVC/DLCO (F/D) ratios between patients diagnosed with FHP and those with IPF, hypothesizing that FHP patients would have a lower ratio.
  • Results showed that FHP patients indeed had a significantly lower mean F/D ratio compared to IPF patients, suggesting that this measure could help in distinguishing between the two conditions.

Exon skipping technologies enable exclusion of targeted exons from mature mRNA transcripts, which have broad applications in medicine and biotechnology. Existing techniques including antisense oligonucleotides, targetable nucleases, and base editors, while effective for specific applications, remain hindered by transient effects, genotoxicity, and inconsistent exon skipping. To overcome these limitations, here we develop SPLICER, a toolbox of next-generation base editors containing near-PAMless Cas9 nickase variants fused to adenosine or cytosine deaminases for the simultaneous editing of splice acceptor (SA) and splice donor (SD) sequences.

Background: Urodynamic evidence of storage dysfunction such as detrusor overactivity (DO) and/or poor compliance are present in up to 30-40% of patients after Radical Prostatectomy (RP). However, the current optimal management of men with DO on preoperative urodynamics prior to male stress urinary incontinence (SUI) surgery is not known.

Methods: We performed a systematic search of the literature including articles on patients undergoing SUI surgery after prostatectomy with preoperative DO between January 2003 and May 2023 to ensure contemporaneous data was obtained.
