Article Synopsis
  • Experimental methods in single-molecule enzymology enable scientists to analyze the unique properties and function of individual enzyme molecules during their catalytic processes.
  • The study utilizes solid-state nanopores, specifically a 5 nm pore in a silicon nitride chip, to observe the performance of cytochrome P450 BM3, a model enzyme in monooxygenase systems.
  • By measuring ion current changes while the enzyme catalyzes laurate hydroxylation, the research showed that the BM3 enzyme is active for up to 1500 seconds, with potential applications in developing sensitive detectors for enzyme studies.

This work demonstrates the use of a solid-state nanopore detector to monitor the activity of a single molecule of a model enzyme, horseradish peroxidase (HRP). This detector includes a measuring cell, which is divided into cis- and trans- chambers by a silicon nitride chip (SiN structure) with a nanopore of 5 nm in diameter. To entrap a single HRP molecule into the nanopore, an electrode had been placed into the cis-chamber; HRP solution was added into this chamber after application of a negative voltage.

Age dynamics of the ability of cercariae of two digenean species, (Himasthlidae) and (Renicolidae), to infect the second intermediate host (SIH), mussels (), was investigated experimentally. This is the first study of this kind made on cercariae transmitted in the intertidal of the northern seas. The larvae of all tested ages (from 0.

Background: For a comprehensive assessment of the effect of surgery in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) it sounds reasonable to evaluate quality of life (QoL) and symptoms in PHPT patients at long-term after parathyroidectomy (PTE). The purpose of this study was to study the quality of life of patients with PHPT before and at different times after PTE and to determine the factors associated with its improvement after surgery.

Materials And Methods: During prospective observational study, patients filled out QoL questionnaires before, 3, 12, 24 months or more after surgery.

An enriched environment stimulates adult hippocampal plasticity, but the exact cellular and molecular mechanisms are complex, and thus a matter of debate. We studied the behavior and hippocampal neurogenesis in adult male and female Wistar rats that were housed in an enriched environment (EE) for two months. Both EE males and females performed better than control animals in a Barnes maze, meaning that EE enhances spatial memory.
