To investigate the effect of replacing cotton seed cake by poultry droppings in the diet of cattle, 30 animals were randomly allocated to three dietary treatments in a 2 x 3 factorial design, sex x treatments. The three treatments consisted of replacing 0%, 25% and 50% (T0, T25, T50 respectively) of the crude protein in 500 g of cotton seed cake with an equivalent amount of protein in poultry droppings. Bluetongue virus (BTV) was diagnosed in the Animal Research Institute, Mankon, Bamenda from tissue samples collected from five sheep of exotic breeds which had died of suspected bluetongue in a series of outbreaks between June and October 1982. Five serotypes BTV 1, 4, 5, 12 and 14 were isolated during the period mentioned. Similar disease occurred during June of the following year and BTV type 16 was isolated from a spleen sample from a dead sheep.
