Background: International consensus on classifications of appendiceal mucinous neoplasms (AMNs) and associated pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) have been carefully made but clinicopathological associations supporting decision making remain scarce.
Objective: This study aimed to assess interdependence between AMNs and PMP and provide directions for clinical management.
Methods: This two-center retrospective cohort study reviewed patients with PMP treated with cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy between 2005 and 2021.
Food systems comprise interconnected webs of processes that together transform inputs (land, labour, water, nutrients and genetics, to mention just a few) into outputs such as nutrition and revenue for human societies. Perfect systems do not exist; rather, global food systems operate in the presence of hazards, biotic and abiotic alike, and under the constraint of limited resources to mitigate these hazards. There are, therefore, inefficiencies in these systems, which lead to losses in terms of monetary, nutritional, health and environmental values and create additional negative externalities in the health, social and environmental spaces.

Pleural infection is usually treated with empirical broad-spectrum antibiotics, but limited data exist on their penetrance into the infected pleural space. We performed a pharmacokinetic study analysing the concentration of five intravenous antibiotics across 146 separate time points in 35 patients (amoxicillin, metronidazole, piperacillin-tazobactam, clindamycin and cotrimoxazole). All antibiotics tested, apart from co-trimoxazole, reach pleural fluid levels equivalent to levels within the blood and well above the relevant minimum inhibitory concentrations.

But what is the prevalence of infected prey and predators when a parasite is transmitted through trophic interactions considering stochastic demographic changes? Here, we modelled and analysed a complex predator-prey-parasite system, where parasites are transmitted from prey to predators. We varied parasite virulence and infection probabilities to investigate how those evolutionary factors determine species' coexistence and populations' composition.
