[Genetic analysis of X-chromosome neurodegenerative mutants of Drosophila melanogaster induced by ethyl methansulfonate and nitrosoethylurea].

In a series of Drosophila mutants with changes in the brain structure, some characters (reduced life span, behavioral changes, and neuronal loss in various brain regions) resemble symptoms observed in human patients with neurodegenerative diseases. In addition, similar specific phenotypes shared by different species suggest that common mechanisms underlie degeneration of their nerve cell. This study reports the results of a genetic analysis of new X-chromosome mutants with neurodegenerative changes in brain structure, which were induced by chemical mutagenesis.

[Combined tumor chemotherapy/gene therapy based on the activation of antineoplastic agents by genetic constructions of cytochromes p450].

This article generally reviews new original two-stage approach to an effective treatment of solid cancers by killing tumour cells by the activation of a prodrug after the gene encoding for an activating enzyme has been targeted to the malignant cell. The experimental data concerning gene therapy for malignant tumours by using oxazaphosphorines and cytochrome P450 in a novel combined chemotherapy/cancer gene therapy strategy discussed.

[Molecular-genetic characteristics of the deleted region of chromosome 8q24.1 in Langer-Giedion and tricho-rhino-phalangeal type I syndromes].

A molecular-genetic characterization of deletions in part of chromosome 8q24.1 was performed in patients with Langer-Giedion syndrome (six patients) and triho-rhino-phalangeal syndrome type I (three patients) by means of Southern blot hybridization analysis, restriction fragment length polymorphism and single-strand conformation polymorphism, analysis. Four families with multiple exostosis chondrodysplasia (MECD) also underwent the same analysis.

[The relationship of the treatment results in acute pancreatitis to the correctness of the diagnosis of the stages of the disease].

An analysis of 77 case histories of people who died from destructive pancreatitis is presented. Medico-tactical errors and complications were found out. A differentiated approach to treatment of acute pancreatitis was shown to be necessary depending on the stage of the disease.
