Metabolomic profiles of stony coral species from the Dry Tortugas National Park display inter- and intraspecies variation.

Unlabelled: Coral reefs are experiencing unprecedented loss in coral cover due to increased incidence of disease and bleaching events. Thus, understanding mechanisms of disease susceptibility and resilience, which vary by species, is important. In this regard, untargeted metabolomics serves as an important hypothesis-building tool enabling the delineation of molecular factors underlying disease susceptibility or resilience.

Modeling adsorption reactions of ammonium perchlorate on rutile and anatase surfaces.

In this work, the effects of two TiO polymorphs on the decomposition of ammonium perchlorate (NHClO) were studied experimentally and theoretically. The interactions between AP and various surfaces of TiO were modeled using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Specifically, the adsorption of AP on three rutile surfaces (1 1 0), (1 0 0), and (0 0 1), as well as two anatase surfaces (1 0 1), and (0 0 1) were modeled using cluster models, along with the decomposition of adsorbed AP into small molecules.

Progressive Decrease in Function and Ambulation Potential: A Case of Subacute Combined Degeneration.

Subacute combined degeneration (SCD) is a reversible cause of posterior and lateral spinal cord degeneration. Prolonged vitamin B12 deficiency is a common cause of SCD as it leads to inhibition of proper myelin synthesis and reduces myelin integrity. When left untreated, SCD causes progressive debility that can lead to irreversible damage.

Toward the Scalable, Rapid, Reproducible, and Cost-Effective Synthesis of Personalized Nanomedicines at the Point of Care.

Organic nanoparticles are used in nanomedicine, including for cancer treatment and some types of COVID-19 vaccines. Here, we demonstrate the scalable, rapid, reproducible, and cost-effective synthesis of three model organic nanoparticle formulations relevant to nanomedicine applications. We employed a custom-made, low-cost fluid mixer device constructed from a commercially available three-dimensional printer.
