Article Synopsis
  • Phoenixin (PNX) is a neuropeptide that significantly influences metabolism and reproduction, playing a role in energy homeostasis, glucose, lipid metabolism, and mitochondrial function.
  • PNX is primarily found in the hypothalamus and is involved in reproductive hormone regulation, as well as being present in other tissues like the heart and pancreas, indicating its widespread metabolic control.
  • The peptide acts through G protein-coupled receptor 173 (GPR173) and may have therapeutic potential for managing conditions like obesity, type 2 diabetes, and infertility, making further research crucial for developing treatment strategies.

BACKGROUND: Shorter but effective tuberculosis treatment regimens would be of value to the tuberculosis treatment community. High-dose rifampicin has been associated with more rapid and secure lung sterilization and may enable shorter tuberculosis treatment regimens. METHODS: We randomly assigned adults who were given a diagnosis of rifampicin-susceptible pulmonary tuberculosis to a 6-month control regimen, a similar 4-month regimen of rifampicin at 1200 mg/d (study regimen 1 [SR1]), or a 4-month regimen of rifampicin at 1800 mg/d (study regimen 2 [SR2]).

Electrocatalytic water splitting has appeared to be a sustainable green technology for hydrogen and oxygen production, and noble metal-based electrocatalysts, like Pt for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and RuO/IrO for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) have been proved to be state-of-the-art in water electrolyzers. However, high cost and scarcity of noble metals hinder large-scale applications of these electrocatalysts in practical commercial water electrolyzers. As an alternative, transition metal based electrocatalysts have attracted great attention because of the exciting catalytic performance, cost-effectiveness and abundant availability.

Objective: Given the uncertainty regarding the predictive value of unilateral tonsillar enlargement and/or lesion in malignancies, this study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of unilateral tonsillar enlargement and/or lesion referral criterion in the adult suspected head and neck cancer pathway.

Methods: All two-week wait referrals received in 2018-2019 were reviewed. All patients referred with unilateral tonsillar enlargement and/or lesion were included and analysed for patient demographic data, presenting symptoms, initial clinic outcomes and final diagnoses.
