The eukaryotic cytoskeleton is an intricate network of three types of mechanically distinct biopolymers - actin filaments, microtubules and intermediate filaments (IFs). These filamentous networks determine essential cellular functions and properties. Among them, microtubules are important for intracellular transport and establishing cell polarity during migration.

Human papilloma virus (HPV) infections vary in their oncogenic potential, and whether an infection progresses to cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) also depends on the immune response. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to explore biomarkers related to the immune system and cell proliferation, in combination with HPV classified as having high (HOP) or low oncogenic potential (LOP), that can possibly guide a more accurate identification of women following cervical cancer screening programmes in need for immediate follow-up with a biopsy. A next-generation sequencing transcriptomic immune profile analysis applied to 28 persistent CIN3 lesions and 14 normal biopsies identified four genes, the immune markers and and the tumour markers and , as possible markers for differentiating between CIN3 and normal tissue.

With recent advances in multi-color super-resolution light microscopy, it is possible to simultaneously visualize multiple subunits within biological structures at nanometer resolution. To optimally evaluate and interpret spatial proximity of stainings on such an image, colocalization analysis tools have to be able to integrate prior knowledge on the local geometry of the recorded biological complex. We present MultiMatch to analyze the abundance and location of chain-like particle arrangements in multi-color microscopy based on multi-marginal optimal unbalanced transport methodology.

While neurosurgical interventions are frequently used in laboratory mice, refinement efforts to optimize analgesic management based on multimodal approaches appear to be rather limited. Therefore, we compared the efficacy and tolerability of combinations of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug carprofen, a sustained-release formulation of the opioid buprenorphine, and the local anesthetic bupivacaine with carprofen monotherapy. Female and male C57BL/6J mice were subjected to isoflurane anesthesia and an intracranial electrode implant procedure.

RNA secondary structures play essential roles in the formation of the tertiary structure and function of a transcript. Recent genome-wide studies highlight significant potential for RNA structures in the mammalian genome. However, a major challenge is assigning functional roles to these structured RNAs.
