Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of early medical prophylaxis versus waiting for endoscopy findings in preventing postoperative recurrence (POR) in patients with Crohn's disease after ileocaecal resection (ICR).
  • Out of 346 patients, those receiving early prophylactic treatment (Cohort 1) had significantly lower endoscopic recurrence rates compared to those who only received treatment based on endoscopy results (Cohort 2).
  • While both groups did not show significant differences in severe endoscopic POR or time to surgical recurrence, the proactive group had a lower treatment burden when using immunomodulators.

Article Synopsis
  • - Patients with Crohn's disease (CrD) have a higher risk of developing small bowel adenocarcinomas (SBAs), and a study found that IDH1 mutations, specifically the R132C variant, are present in about 20% of these cancers, more frequently than in sporadic SBAs.
  • - The study compared various features between IDH1-mutated and wild-type CrD-SBAs, revealing that the mutated cases had lower cytokeratin 7 expression, higher p53 overexpression, and increased MGMT methylation, indicating unique clinical characteristics.
  • - Despite the differences in tumor features, there was no significant difference in cancer-specific survival rates between patients with IDH1 mutations and those without

Study Design: Cross-sectional.

Objective: The aim of this study was to describe morphologic changes of the annulus fibrosus (AF) and nucleus pulposus (NP) in children during growth using magnetic resonance imaging.

Summary Of Background Data: Little is known of intervertebral disk (IVD) maturation as opposed to degeneration, such as changes in relative AF/NP proportions and orientation during growth.

Background: Small bowel adenocarcinoma (SBA) is a rare cancer with an aggressive behavior. No study has specifically addressed the putative prognostic role of mismatch repair status in stage III SBAs.

Aims: We aimed to investigate whether mismatch repair deficiency is associated with cancer-specific survival in a Western cohort of patients with stage III SBAs.

Background And Aim: Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia [PJP] is a very rare, potentially life-threatening pulmonary fungal infection that occurs in immunocompromised individuals including patients with inflammatory bowel disease [IBD]. Our aim was to describe immunosuppressive treatment exposure as well as the outcome in IBD patients with PJP.

Methods: PJP cases were retrospectively collected through the COllaborative Network For Exceptionally Rare case reports of the European Crohn's and Colitis Organisation.
