Article Synopsis
  • Magnetic alignment (MA) is when animals, like cows, instinctively orient their bodies in a north-south direction, which has been linked to their well-being and behavior.
  • Researchers hypothesized that misalignment of dairy cow resting areas could lead to an increase in technopathies, which are injuries or disorders caused by the environment.
  • Findings showed that cows in north-south oriented cubicles had 30% fewer instances of technopathies and a 40% decrease in the number of conditions per cow compared to those in non-north-south aligned cubicles.

Taro (Colocasia esculenta) is an important root crop in the humid tropics and a valuable source of essential mineral nutrients. In the presented study, we compared the mineral compositions of four main parts of taro corm: the upper, marginal, central and lower (basal) parts. The freeze-dried taro samples were analysed for eleven minerals (K, P, Mg, Ca, Zn, Fe, Mn, Cu, Cd, Pb and Cr).
