Feasibility and Acceptability of a Virtual Reality Curriculum to Support Firearm Safety Counseling Skills Among Pediatric Residents.

Firearm-related injury is the leading cause of death among US children and adolescents. Residents across specialties report low preparedness to provide firearm safety counseling. Virtual reality (VR) may offer a modality to support residents' skills through deliberate practice in a simulated setting.

A Randomized Trial of Virtual Reality Training to Improve Firearm Safety Counseling Skills.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of Resident Education And Counseling on Household (REACH) Firearm Safety, a novel virtual reality (VR) intervention.

Methods: We conducted a single-center, randomized controlled trial among pediatric residents in a Midwestern academic primary care center comparing REACH Firearm Safety with didactic training (intervention) to didactic training alone (control). In the intervention arm, participants practiced firearm safety counseling with virtual characters and received immediate feedback.

Physicians' Human Papillomavirus Vaccine Communication With Parents of Different Skin Color: Feasibility of Measuring Indicators of Implicit Bias With Virtual Reality.

Purpose: Virtual reality (VR) may be a viable method to observe and describe signals of implicit bias. Using the context of the human papillomavirus vaccine counseling, we sought to describe physicians' communication practices exploring differences when counseling parents with different skin colors.

Methods: Physicians (N = 90) at an academic primary care center were recruited for a VR study in which they counseled dark or light-skinned parent avatars who expressed hesitation about human papillomavirus vaccination for their adolescent child.

Factors Associated With Racially and Ethnically Diverse Sample of Adolescents, Young Adults, and Parents' Intention to Receive a COVID-19 Vaccine.

Purpose: Identify variables, including moderating variables, associated with adolescents, young adults, and parents' intention to receive a COVID-19 vaccine in January 2021.

Design: Cross-sectional survey.

Setting: United States Midwestern academic medical center.
