Hypoxia is a significant stressor, and stabilized hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) regulates the expression of numerous genes, leading to various biochemical, molecular, physiological and genomic changes. The body's oxygen-sensing system activates gene expression to protect brain tissues from hypoxia. Gamma-aminobutyric acid, an inhibitory neurotransmitter, regulates brain excitability during hypoxia through the activation of HIF-1 α.

Transition metal-mediated catalytic reduction, oxidation, and hydrofunctionalization reactions are important organic reactions and are considered highly atom-economical. Owing to their unique properties, selenium ligated several transition metals-based complexes have been reported for several catalytic applications. This review presents the synthesis of various selenium-supported transition metal complexes and their catalytic applications in reduction, oxidation, N-alkylation of amines, and hydrofunctionalization reactions.

Cereal grains are frequently attacked by microorganisms and insects during storage and processing, which negatively affects their quality, safety, and market value. Therefore, protecting stored grains from microbial contamination is crucial for food industries, farmers, public health associations, and environmental agencies. Due to the negative impact of synthetic gray chemicals, antimicrobial plant-based essential oils (EOs) can serve as alternative, safer, environmentally friendly preservatives that can prolong the shelf life of cereals.
