Affinity-Enriched Plasma Proteomics for Biomarker Discovery in Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a life-threatening condition characterized by the weakening and dilation of the abdominal aorta. Few diagnostic biomarkers have been proposed for this condition. We performed mass spectrometry-based proteomics analysis of affinity-enriched plasma from 45 patients with AAA and 45 matched controls to identify changes to the plasma proteome and potential diagnostic biomarkers.

A 10-Year Single Center Analysis: Is There a Need to Reconsider Our Approach to the Management of Neonatal Testicular Torsion?

The management of neonatal testicular torsion lacks consensus. Arguments in favor of emergency bilateral exploration and fixation include a salvage rate and the incidence of bilateral torsion. We performed a retrospective single-center analysis of all cases of neonatal torsion in our unit between 2012 and 2022 to assess whether our data supports this approach and to publish further data on a disease on which there remains a paucity.

DNA methylation-based predictors of metabolic traits in Scottish and Singaporean cohorts.

Exploring the molecular correlates of metabolic health measures may identify their shared and unique biological processes and pathways. Molecular proxies of these traits may also provide a more objective approach to their measurement. Here, DNA methylation (DNAm) data were used in epigenome-wide association studies (EWASs) and for training epigenetic scores (EpiScores) of six metabolic traits: body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage, waist-hip ratio, and blood-based measures of glucose, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and total cholesterol in >17,000 volunteers from the Generation Scotland (GS) cohort.

Breastfeeding Journeys: Comparing Mothers' Experiences with Autistic and Neurotypical Infants.

Breastfeeding is a complex task that requires proficiency at several key developmental skills to feed successfully. It is unclear how Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) affects an infant's breastfeeding experience and conflicting reports exist on shortened breastfeeding duration in infants later diagnosed with ASD. The purpose of this study was to describe the experiences of mothers breastfeeding both their autistic and neurotypical children to better understand the differences in their breastfeeding experiences and maternal and infant factors that contributed to breastfeeding cessation in their autistic child.

Secondary lymphedema is a common complication following surgical treatment of solid tumors. Although more prevalent in women due to higher breast cancer rates, men also develop lymphedema, often with more severe manifestations.
