Background: Intravenous prostacyclin (iv PGI) and inhaled Iloprost (inh ilo) are established therapies in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), however comparative data are lacking.
Methods And Patients: We performed a long-term open label comparison trial of iv PGI or high dose inh ilo in 24 patients with severe PAH: 12 patients (9 female, 40 +/- 14 years, 10 idiopathic PAH, 2 PAH in connective tissue disease CTD) received iv PGI, whereas 12 patients (7 female, 43 +/- 12 years, 5 IPAH, 6 CTD, 1 porto-pulmonary hypertension) were commenced on inh ilo with a median dose of 120 μg/24 h. Haemodynamic parameters and 6 min walking distance (6MWD) at baseline did not differ between both groups.

Carbon-based materials offer a number of exciting possibilities for both new science and applications. Many of these are based on the novel band structure of graphene, by which solids mimic the properties of relativistic fermions and which offers the potential for high speed nanoscale electronics. When sheets of graphene are rolled up to make carbon nanotubes, further interesting properties are found; for example, both semiconducting and metallic nanotubes able to be produced.

We studied the short- and long-term effects of nebulised iloprost on pulmonary function tests and gas exchange in 63 patients with severe pulmonary hypertension (idiopathic n=17, chronic thromboembolism n=15, connective tissue disease n=12, congenital heart disease n=11, respiratory diseases n=8). Patients received iloprost in increasing dose up to 140 micro g iloprost/24h via an ultrasonic nebuliser.

The technique is based on ultraviolet (UV) absorption by nucleotides. A deuterium source illuminates individual sample lanes of an electrophoresis gel via an array of optical fibres.
