From bench to bedside: elucidating VEGF(R) inhibitor-related heart failure in cancer treatment.

Background: Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and VEGF receptor (VEGFR) inhibitors play a pivotal role in treating various tumors; however, the clinical characteristics and molecular mechanisms of their associated heart failure (HF) remain incompletely understood.

Methods: We investigated the epidemiological characteristics of VEGF or VEGFR inhibitors [VEGF(R)i]-related heart failure (VirHF) using the global pharmacovigilance database Vigibase. The phenotypic features and molecular mechanisms of VirHF were characterized using VEGF(R)i-treated mouse models through a combination of echocardiography, histopathological analysis, and transcriptome sequencing.

Poor control of pain increases the risk of depression: a cross-sectional study.

Background: Inadequate pain management not only results in prolonged physical discomfort but also causes a range of psychological and social issues, such as anxiety, depression, social withdrawal, and diminished work performance. This study aims to investigate the relationship between the duration of pain and depression.

Methods: This study utilized data on pain and depression from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2011 to 2014.

Lived experiences of empowerment in parents of trans children and adolescents.

The construct of empowerment is associated with beneficial outcomes in numerous populations with well-being across multiple domains. Within families, empowerment has been found to be related to both parent and child well-being. As such, empowerment appears to be a promising concept to support parents of young (< 18 years) trans and gender diverse children and adolescents; however, what empowerment means for parents of trans children and adolescents is not known.

Single- versus two-test criteria for cognitive impairment: associations with CSF and imaging markers in former American football players.

 Cognitive impairment is a core feature of traumatic encephalopathy syndrome (TES), the putative clinical syndrome of chronic traumatic encephalopathy-a neuropathological disease associated with repetitive head impacts (RHI). Careful operationalization of cognitive impairment is essential to improving the diagnostic specificity and accuracy of TES criteria. We compared single- versus two-test criteria for cognitive impairment in their associations with CSF and imaging biomarkers in male former American football players.
