Background: Day surgery is being increasingly implemented across Europe, driven in part by capacity problems. Patients recovering at home could benefit from tools tailored to their new care setting to effectively manage their convalescence. The mHealth application ikHerstel is one such tool, but although it administers its functions in the home, its implementation hinges on health care professionals within the hospital.

Article Synopsis
  • Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a severe lung disease linked to decreased physical ability and oxygen levels, both of which can predict survival rates in patients, especially when treated with antifibrotic drugs.
  • This study analyzed data from patients who underwent a 6-minute walk test (6MWT) between 2015 and 2020 to evaluate how well certain test outcomes correlated with survival over two years.
  • Results indicate that specific metrics from the 6MWT, particularly the minimal oxygen saturation during exercise (SpO-nadir), effectively predict mortality risk; incorporating SpO-nadir into existing survival models enhances their accuracy for clinical use in IPF care.

Background And Aim: In sarcoidosis which is not threatening vital internal organs such as heart, central nervous system or lungs immunomodulatory treatment, such as hydroxychloroquine can be considered. Despite its common use, limited data are available regarding effectiveness and side effects as monotherapy in sarcoidosis. Recommendations on its usage are based on expert opinion as literature is scarce.

Article Synopsis
  • Propionic acidemia (PA) is a rare genetic metabolic disorder that can lead to serious health issues like hyperammonemia and neurological complications, particularly in newborns.
  • A case study of an eight-month-old boy showed how respiratory symptoms from a viral infection masked underlying neurological deficits related to PA, including hypotonia and weakness.
  • The need for careful monitoring and additional investigations is highlighted, as acute illnesses can obscure other significant metabolic problems and complicate diagnosis and treatment.

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is now the standard of care for patients with locally advanced breast cancer (BC). TIL scoring is prognostic and adds predictive value to the residual cancer burden evaluation after NAC. However, NAC induces changes in the tumor, and the reliability of TIL scoring in post-NAC samples has not yet been studied.
