Dissimilar Changes in Serum Cortisol after Epileptic and Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures: A Promising Biomarker in the Differential Diagnosis of Paroxysmal Events?

The hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis is known to be involved in the pathogenesis of epilepsy and psychiatric disorders. Epileptic seizures (ESs) and psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNESs) are frequently differentially misdiagnosed. This study aimed to evaluate changes in serum cortisol and prolactin levels after ESs and PNESs as possible differential diagnostic biomarkers.

[Modern ideas about the relationship between fibromyalgia and mental disorders].

Fibromyalgia (FM) is a pain syndrome with a high burden and an understudied etiology and pathogenesis. There is now considerable evidence that FM has a strong bidirectional relationship with psychiatric disorders and is associated with certain personality traits that contribute to the severity of key somatic symptoms and affect overall prognosis. In this article, the authors present data from recent epidemiological and neurobiological studies, discuss the multilevel relationship between FM and psychiatric disorders, and briefly review approaches to the treatment of co-morbid conditions.

[Long-term results of surgical correction of H-type fistula in girls with a normal anus].

Objective: To evaluate the long-term results of surgical correction of H-type fistula in girls with a normal anus.

Material And Methods: There were 7 patients with rectovestibular fistula and 3 patients with rectovaginal fistula with a normal anus were observed from 2014 to 2019 in the Surgical Department No. 1 of the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital.
