In this work, three bis-pyrrolidone-based structures (BP) were synthesized combining dimethyl itaconate (DMI), the dimethyl ester derivative of itaconic acid, with various aliphatic diamines having a C4 to C12 carbon chain length with the aim of developing novel bio-based building blocks. All three BPs were obtained with a purity >93% and could further be used without performing any tedious purification step, therefore allowing an easy scalability of the synthesis on a 10 g scale. Their potential application was demonstrated in two key areas of modern polymer science: (1) the enzymatic synthesis of polyesters and (2) their use as poly(lactic acid) (PLA) additives.

Given the natural origins of flavylium derivatives, their chemical modifications, and their large potential uses in food, medicine, or green chemistry, the present review is a comprehensive study of flavylium-derived compounds. Several topics such as the green extraction and isolation techniques of flavylium derivatives including their chemical modifications and various characterization tools such as NMR, HPLC, and mass spectrometry are discussed in the review. Furthermore, the use of these derivatives in medicine, food, and materials science is presented, highlighting their relevance and the need for further investigation.

This study aimed to assess the influence of different types of blue light sources on male and female rats' puberty onset, the morphologic-induced alterations in reproductive organs tissues, the impact on inflammation and oxidative stress markers, anxiety levels, and mathematical modeling for tissue data interpretation. Four groups of sixteen rats each (8 females and 8 males/group) were investigated: three groups were exposed to blue light from mobile phones (MP), computer screens (PC), or LED lamps (LED) versus the control group (CTRL). The rats in the CTRL group had no exposure while the other groups were exposed for 30 days to the blue light of MP, PC, and LED for 16 h per day.

Within the context of paving the way for a sustainable bioeconomy, there is a strong emphasis on utilizing bio-based raw materials as substitutes for fossil fuels in the production of polymers. When designing the synthesis of novel polymeric materials from bio-based building blocks, a promising green approach consists in utilizing enzymes as biocatalysts. This aspect is particularly important when aiming to obtain products from the class of polyesters and polyesteramides with biocompatible and biodegradable properties, as enzymes facilitate the synthesis of polymers that align closely with biological systems.

The development of biopolymer-based films represents a promising direction in the packaging industry that responds to stringent needs for sustainability, reducing the ecological impact. Traditional fossil-derived polymers present major concerns because of their long decomposition time and their significant contribution to the pollution of the environment. On the contrary, biopolymers such as chitosan, PVA, and PLA offer viable alternatives.
