Trends in Contralateral Prophylactic Mastectomies Before and After the American Society of Breast Surgeons Consensus Statement.

Introduction: In 2016, an American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBrS) statement discouraged contralateral prophylactic mastectomy (CPM) in average-risk women with unilateral breast cancer. Despite evidence of no oncologic benefit and related attempts to discourage the practice, CPM remains prevalent. This study aims to assess CPM trends post-ASBrS statement and factors associated with these trends.

Concordance of leadership documentation in curricula vitae and recommendation letters among applicants for general surgery residency.

Background: Letters of recommendation (LOR) are vital to surgical residency applications. Our prior study demonstrated differences in letter content by applicant sex, including more frequent reference to leadership and awards for male applicants. This study evaluates if leadership activities and awards as documented by the applicant's curriculum vitae (CV) corroborate differences noted in corresponding recommendation letters.

Prepectoral Breast Reconstruction Prompts Revisiting the Anatomical Boundaries of the Breast: A Radiographic and Cadaveric Study.

Background: This study aimed to determine the location of superficial fascial system condensations in relation to classic anatomical breast boundaries. Cadaveric studies have provided some understanding, but knowledge about the precise location of these condensations remains limited.

Methods: Preoperative breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was conducted to assess the fascial condensations defining the breast footprint relative to landmarks such as the latissimus, clavicle, sternal border, and inframammary fold.

Complete Response of Triple-Negative Metaplastic Carcinoma of the Breast Using Pembrolizumab.

Metaplastic breast cancer (MpBC) is a rare form of breast malignancy with a poor prognosis and limited treatment guidance. Here, we report on a case of triple-negative MpBC that was successfully treated following the Keynote-522 clinical algorithm using pembrolizumab, paclitaxel, carboplatin, adriamycin, and cyclophosphamide in a neo-adjuvant fashion. The radiographic and histologic findings of the tumor are reviewed here along with the treatment regimen and response.

Novel Form of Breast Intraoperative Radiation Therapy with CT-Guided High-Dose-Rate Brachytherapy: Interim Results of a Prospective Phase-II Clinical Trial.

Background: Precision breast intraoperative radiation therapy (PB-IORT) is a novel method of IORT that uses customized CT-based treatment plans and high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy. We conducted a phase-II multi-institution trial to evaluate the efficacy of PB-IORT.

Study Design: Between 2015 and 2022, 3 centers enrolled women aged 45 years and older with invasive or in situ carcinoma measuring 3 cm or smaller and N0 status (n = 358).
