Prognostic models for prediction of perioperative allogeneic red blood cell transfusion in adult cardiac surgery: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Objectives: Identifying cardiac surgical patients at risk of requiring red blood cell (RBC) transfusion is crucial for optimizing their outcome. We critically appraised prognostic models preoperatively predicting perioperative exposure to RBC transfusion in adult cardiac surgery and summarized model performance.

Methods: Design: Systematic review and meta-analysis.

The patient with congenital heart disease in ambulatory surgery.

The number of patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) undergoing ambulatory surgery is increasing. Deciding whether a CHD patient is suitable for an ambulatory procedure is still challenging. Several factors must be considered, including the type of planned procedure, the complexity of the underlying pathology, the American Society of Anesthesiologists' Physical Status classification of the patient, and other patient-specific factors, including comorbidity, chronic complications of CHD, medication, coagulation disorders, and issues related to the presence of a pacemaker (PM) or cardioverter-defibrillator.

'Doing' kinship: heterosexual parents' experiences of non-genetic parenthood through donor conception.

Research Question: How do Dutch heterosexual parents who achieved parenthood through donor conception navigate non-genetic parenthood and kinship?

Design: A qualitative in-depth semi-structured interview study was performed between September 2018 and January 2019 with both partners of 13 Dutch heterosexual couples where the male partner suffered from infertility and who conceived a child with the help of a sperm donor. Interview questions were based on literature and clinical experiences of experts in the field of donor conception. Interviews were transcribed and analysed using thematic analysis.

Unmet support needs in donor sperm treatment: consequences for parents and their donor-children.

Research Question: Are unmet needs for psychosocial counselling, peer support and friends/family support in parents directly and/or indirectly related to the mental health of parents and their donor-children?

Design: A cross-sectional sample of 214 parents participated in this quantitative study via an online questionnaire. The sample comprised mothers and fathers in a heterosexual relationship (n = 85), mothers in a lesbian relationship (n = 67) and single mothers (n = 62). Parents were recruited via three Dutch fertility clinics and four network organizations.

Medical Specialists' Perspectives on the Influence of Electronic Medical Record Use on the Quality of Hospital Care: Semistructured Interview Study.

Background: Numerous publications show that electronic medical records (EMRs) may make an important contribution to increasing the quality of care. There are indications that particularly the medical specialist plays an important role in the use of EMRs in hospitals.

Objective: The aim of this study was to examine how, and by which aspects, the relationship between EMR use and the quality of care in hospitals is influenced according to medical specialists.
