Article Synopsis
  • Plant viruses pose significant threats to crops, making quick and accurate detection essential for managing outbreaks and ensuring food security.
  • This study introduces a CRISPR/Cas13a method that can rapidly identify various plant viruses, including the tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV), directly from crop RNA.
  • A simple, 15-minute extraction-free protocol was developed, allowing for on-site detection using a portable fluorescent viewer and a mobile phone camera, effectively helping identify ToBRFV in commercial greenhouses.

Article Synopsis
  • Microalgae are being researched for their potential in sustainable food, biofuels, and biofunctional compounds, but low lipid content in algal biomass poses a hurdle for commercial application.
  • A novel method using an aggregation-induced emission luminogen (AIEgen), TPA-A, showed promising results by enhancing light absorption, resulting in nearly double the algal growth and significant lipid accumulation compared to the control group.
  • The study indicates that TPA-A is biocompatible and easily degradable, confirming its potential to stimulate algal growth and lipid production for eco-friendly bioproducts.

Arsenic (As) contamination in groundwater is emerging as a significant global concern, posing serious risks to the safety of drinking water and public health. To understand the release mechanisms, mobilization processes, spatial distribution, and probabilistic health risks of As in western Bangladesh, forty-seven samples were collected and analyzed using an atomic absorption spectrometer (AAS). The As concentrations in groundwater ranged from 1.

Distinct hepatocyte subpopulations are spatially segregated along the portal-central axis and critical to understanding metabolic homeostasis and liver injury. While several bioactive molecules have been described to play a role in directing zonal fates, including ascorbate and bilirubin, replication of zonal liver architecture has not been achieved to date. In order to evaluate hepatic zonal polarity, we developed a self-assembling zone-specific liver organoid culture by co-culturing ascorbate and bilirubin enriched hepatic progenitors derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells.
