We have developed a method to extract density fluctuation measurements from x-ray radiographs of high-energy density (HED) instability growth and turbulence experiments. We use this information to calculate density fluctuation statistics for constraining the performance of turbulent mix models in HED systems. The density calculation combines image filtering, removal of systemic effects such as backlighter variation, calculation of transmission across multiple materials, and use of tracer materials to generate an approximate single-material density field.

This technique involves spatially multiplexing a double pulse reflected from a target with reference beams of precisely known temporal separation.

We consider experiments that use x-ray area backlighting to image a thin layer of opaque material within a physics package to observe its hydrodynamic evolution. The spatial variance of the x-ray transmission across the system due to changing opacity serves as an analog for measuring density in this evolving layer.

Type 2 diabetes (T2DM) constitutes insulin resistance, which is a strong risk factor for strokes. Patients with MetS are often prone to cognitive decline.

This new system has a pointing accuracy of +/100 μm, a temporal resolution down to 100 ps (depending on backlighter characteristics), variable magnification, and a spatial resolution of 21.9 µm at the object plane at a magnification of 15×.
