PET/CT for perforator identification in deep inferior epigastric perforator flap harvest.

Background: CT angiography (CTA) is used for preoperative localization in deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flaps, but is an additional costly study that involves contrast and radiation exposure. Many patients with head and neck cancer already undergo PET/CT. We investigated if PET/CT could be used to preoperatively localize perforators and if this corresponded with the intraoperative location.

Gas sensors present an alternative to traditional off-package food quality assessment, due to their high sensitivity and fast response without the need of sample pretreatment. The safe integration of gas sensors into packaging without compromising sensitivity, response rate, and stability, however, remains a challenge. Such packaging integration of spoilage sensors is crucial for preventing food waste and transitioning toward more sustainable supply chains.

Older Adults' Experiences of Emergency Department Admission Decisions: A Qualitative Study in a Public Safety Net Hospital.

Background: Hospital admission is a significant event in the healthcare trajectory of older adults (age 60 +). Numerous harms such as delirium, falls, and adverse medication events can arise that outweigh the benefits of admission. Little is known about how older adults feel about being hospitalized or what they think admission will achieve for them.

Delayed primary arterial switch for a rare and unusual variant of transposition of great arteries with posterior aorta.

Though initially described in 1971 by Van Praagh, transposition of great arteries with posterior aorta is rarely reported in last two decades. Since the arrangement of great arteries appears like normally related great arteries, a careful echocardiographic evaluation is necessary in patients with clinical features of transposition of great arteries. In majority of cases with this anatomy, arterial switch operation can be performed without the need of Le Compte manoeuvre.
