Management of Terson Syndrome: Long-Term Experience in a Single Center.

Background/objectives: Terson Syndrome (TS) is a rare entity consisting of an intraocular hemorrhage secondary to subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) or intracerebral hemorrhage (IH). This study aimed to retrospectively describe the experience of the Ophthalmology Unit of Policlinico Gemelli, Rome, in the management of TS.

Targeting ferroptosis with the lipoxygenase inhibitor PTC-041 as a therapeutic strategy for the treatment of Parkinson's disease.

Parkinson's disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder, affecting nearly 10 million people worldwide. Ferroptosis, a recently identified form of regulated cell death characterized by 15-lipoxygenase-mediated hydroperoxidation of membrane lipids, has been implicated in neurodegenerative disorders including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Parkinson's disease. Pharmacological inhibition of 15 -lipoxygenase to prevent iron- and lipid peroxidation-associated ferroptotic cell death is a rational strategy for the treatment of Parkinson's disease.

Reproducibility of SIMPLE classification for diabetic retinopathy screening and its comparison to current Italian guidelines.

Purpose: To evaluate the reproducibility of SIMPLE (Single field Image Multi Parameters defined Lesions Extent), a new Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) classification for screening of 45° single field fundus pictures of patients with diabetes (PwDM), assessing DR, Diabetic Maculopathy (DMac) and referral rate agreement and comparing it to current Italian Guidelines (IG).

Materials And Methods: We conducted a retrospective, observational, multicentre study, collecting 1000 retinal 45° single field images of PwDM obtained during routine visits in two diabetes clinics. Three ophthalmologists evaluated each image, determining the presence and number of specific DR lesions and then assigning a stage according to the current IG for screening.

Real-world experience with fluocinolone acetonide intravitreal implant in patients with diabetic macular edema.

Objectives: to evaluate long-term effectiveness and safety of fluocinolone acetonide (FAc) implant used as second-line treatment in patients with persistent diabetic macular edema (DME).

Methods: retrospective data chart review of 241 pseudophakic eyes of 178 patients treated with FAc from July 2017 to December 2021 in 10 medical retinal units in Italy. The primary endpoint was the change of best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and central macular thickness (CMT) at 2 years.
