To determine if a variant identified by diagnostic genetic testing is causal for disease, applied genetics professionals evaluate all available evidence to assign a clinical classification. Experimental assay data can provide strong functional evidence for or against pathogenicity in variant classification, but appears to be underutilised. We surveyed genetic diagnostic professionals in Australasia to assess their application of functional evidence in clinical practice.

The Europa Imaging System (EIS) consists of a Narrow-Angle Camera (NAC) and a Wide-Angle Camera (WAC) that are designed to work together to address high-priority science objectives regarding Europa's geology, composition, and the nature of its ice shell. EIS accommodates variable geometry and illumination during rapid, low-altitude flybys with both framing and pushbroom imaging capability using rapid-readout, 8-megapixel (4k × 2k) detectors. Color observations are acquired using pushbroom imaging with up to six broadband filters.

Background: Conversations about prognosis for genetic neurodevelopmental conditions are becoming more frequent; however, there is a lack of evidence and guidance on how to approach these conversations and frame the information being provided.

Objective: (1) To understand how parents perceive prognostic conversations with healthcare professionals and their preferences for these conversations, (2) To investigate the framing of prognostic information found online.

Methods: This was a mixed-methods study, comprising of (1) a thematic analysis of interviews with parents and (2) a quantification of prognostic information available on the internet that portrayed a negative message.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers discovered a specific motif (YDDΦxΦ) in NF-κB pathway substrates that helps these substrates dock with IKK dimers, showing a link between how well they bind and IKK activity, particularly in IκBα phosphorylation and degradation.
  • The study suggests that a certain phosphorylation event on this motif reduces its ability to dock with IKK, which can influence NF-κB signaling, and also indicates that disrupting IKK dimerization disrupts substrate binding.
