Introduction: Major electrocardiogram abnormalities (MECG) are common in middle-aged and older individuals and could be an important factor in predicting cardiovascular events.

Objective: To analyse the association between MECG (Minnesota classification) and CVE independently of classic cardiovascular risk factors (CVRF), and to assess whether they improve the prediction according to the Spanish Coronary Event Risk Function (FRESCO).

Method: 1.

Space division multiplexing (SDM) systems using few-mode fibers (FMF) are essential for next-generation fiber optic communications. Optical amplifiers with low noise, minimal differential modal gain (DMG), and minimal differential spectral gain (DSG) are essential for these systems. In this work, we present a method to design and optimize a two-stage few-mode erbium-doped fiber amplifier (FM-EDFA) using a joint DMG-DSG minimization approach.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how autophagy and oxidized low-density lipoproteins (ox-LDL) impact the function of extravillous trophoblasts (EVTs), which are vital for proper placentation.
  • Autophagy is found to be essential for EVTs to transition into an endothelial-like phenotype but doesn't influence their invasion capabilities, while ox-LDL negatively affects both invasion and the formation of vital structures, independent of autophagy.
  • The research highlights that alterations in autophagy levels and ox-LDL concentrations could play a significant role in placental development issues, including complications like preeclampsia.

Article Synopsis
  • Study Purpose
  • : The study aimed to identify factors influencing different types of left atrial strain (LARS, LACS, LABS) in patients without cardiovascular disease, emphasizing the relationship between left atrial strain and left ventricular function.
  • Methods
  • : Researchers conducted echocardiographic exams on patients from two hospitals, measuring left atrial volumes and strains using advanced imaging software, with a total of 196 patients analyzed, averaging 54 years of age.
  • Findings
  • : Results showed key correlations between left atrial strain and factors such as sex, global longitudinal strain, and left atrial ejection fraction, highlighting the importance of global longitudinal strain as a significant predictor of left atrial reservoir

Introduction: Insomnia is the most common sleep disorder, and it adversely impacts daily living and increases the risk of chronic and acute health problems. Of the few individuals who seek treatment for insomnia, most pursue help in primary care settings. The management of insomnia most commonly focuses on the prescription of hypnotics and sleep hygiene recommendations, although these are not the most effective treatments.
