Risk factors for readmission following esophagectomy and gastrectomy for cancer.

Introduction: Hospital readmission after surgery is a key quality indicator. This nationwide cohort study aimed to assess readmission rates following esophagectomy and gastrectomy for cancer and identify associated risk factors.

Methods: Data were extracted from the Dutch Upper GI Cancer Audit (DUCA) for patients with esophagogastric cancer who underwent esophagectomy or gastrectomy with curative intent between January 2011 and June 2016.

Covered stent grafts for relining of chronically occluded femoro-popliteal bypasses in frail patients.

In four high-risk patients with chronically occluded femoro-popliteal bypass suffering from Rutherford 4-5 chronic limb threatening ischemia we performed, as an alternative for redo surgery, endovasculair relining with covered stent grafts. During follow-up (3, 8, 14 and 20 months) one patient had redo percutaneous intervention and eventually below-the-knee amputation.

Phenotypic variability including Behçet's disease-like manifestations in DADA2 patients due to a homozygous c.973-2A>G splice site mutation.

Objectives: To describe phenotypic and functional characteristics of patients with the homozygous c.973-2A>G splice site mutation in the adenosine deaminase 2 (ADA2) gene (rs139750129), resulting in deficiency of ADA2 (DADA2).

Methods: We present case synopses of six patients from three unrelated families.

Germline variant in MSX1 identified in a Dutch family with clustering of Barrett's esophagus and esophageal adenocarcinoma.

The vast majority of esophageal adenocarcinoma cases are sporadic and caused by somatic mutations. However, over the last decades several families have been identified with clustering of Barrett's esophagus and esophageal adenocarcinoma. This observation suggests that one or more hereditary factors may play a role in the initiation of Barrett's esophagus and esophageal adenocarcinoma in these families.

Molecular clonality analysis of esophageal adenocarcinoma by multiregion sequencing of tumor samples.

Background: Intratumor heterogeneity has been demonstrated in several cancer types, following a model of branched evolution. It is unknown to which extent intratumor heterogeneity is applicable to esophageal adenocarcinoma. Therefore the aim of this study was to characterise intratumor heterogeneity in esophageal adenocarcinoma.
