Impact of islet autotransplantation on 30-day post-operative outcomes in patients undergoing total pancreatectomy: A NSQIP retrospective cohort analysis of 584 patients.

Background: Total pancreatectomy (TP) offers a surgical option for refractory pancreatitis, yet confers substantial long-term morbidity associated with resultant diabetes. While total pancreatectomy with islet autotransplantation (TPIAT) offers an intuitive solution, data evaluating its safety have been limited to single-center studies. The aim of this study is to evaluate whether the addition of islet autotransplantation to TP confers additional post-operative morbidity within the 30-day post-operative period.

Impact of prenatal exposure to delta 9-tetrahydrocannabinol and cannabidiol on birth size and postnatal growth trajectories.

Background: Prenatal exposure to cannabis (or more specifically, delta 9-tetrahydrocannabinol [Δ9-THC]) has been consistently linked to low birthweight. Animal models further show that Δ9-THC is associated with rapid postnatal growth. Whether this association is modified by breastfeeding is unknown.

Sun-like stars produce superflares roughly once per century.

Stellar superflares are energetic outbursts of electromagnetic radiation that are similar to solar flares but release more energy, up to 10 erg on main-sequence stars. It is unknown whether the Sun can generate superflares and, if so, how often they might occur. We used photometry from the Kepler space observatory to investigate superflares on other stars with Sun-like fundamental parameters.

Liver Allograft Cirrhosis, Retransplant, and Mortality Secondary to Recurrent Disease After Transplant for MASH: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

Background: Recurrent disease after liver transplant is well recognized for many diseases. Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and steatohepatitis (MASH) are leading indications for liver transplant, and there is scarce knowledge about recurrence-related end outcomes such as retransplant and mortality. This project aims to assess the proportion of patients transplanted for MASH who develop recurrent disease and adverse clinical outcomes.
