Objective: To examine the association between preterm delivery and parental separation and identify associated risk factors.
Methods: All opposite sex, married or common-law parents whose relationship status was available at index delivery and for the next 5 years were eligible in this retrospective population-based cohort study in Manitoba, Canada. Parents of children born preterm were matched 1:5 to parents of children born full-term.
John Brooksby was an outstanding Scottish veterinary virologist who worked at the Pirbright Institute (Pirbright) for 40 years, including 16 as the institute's director. He devised quantitative methods for measuring neutralising antibodies and perfected a complement fixation test for the diagnosis, typing and strain differentiation of foot and mouth disease (FMD), especially when combined with neutralisation. He identified four of the seven types of FMD virus (FMDV) and many subtypes.

Objectives: We aimed to validate preterm birth related perinatal and neonatal data in DAD by assessing its accuracy against the reference standard of the Canadian Neonatal Network (CNN) database.
Methods: We linked birth hospitalization data between the DAD and CNN databases for all neonates born <33 weeks gestational age (GA) admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Units in Winnipeg, Canada, between 2010 and 2022.
Objectives: Refine the administrative data definition of sepsis in hospitalized patients, including less severe cases.
Design And Setting: For each of 1928 infection and 108 organ dysfunction codes used in Canadian hospital abstracts, experts reached consensus on the likelihood that it could relate to sepsis. We developed a new algorithm, called AlgorithmL, that requires at least one infection and one organ dysfunction code adjudicated as likely or very likely to be related to sepsis.
Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML) are severe myeloid disorders associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Because of patient and disease factors, many older adults are treated as outpatients with less-intensive therapy. Optimal supportive care strategies to minimize bleeding and infectious complications in this patient population have not been systematically evaluated.
