Introduction: Robotic therapy allow to propose sessions of controlled and identical exercises, customizing settings, and characteristics on the individual patient. The effectiveness of robotic assisted therapy is still under study and the use of robots in clinical practice is still limited. Moreover, the possibility of treatment at home allows to reduce the economic costs and time to be borne by the patient and the caregiver and is a valid tool during periods of pandemic such as covid.

Introduction: Up to fifteen percent of patients with novel pandemic coronavirus disease (Covid-19) have acute respiratory failure (ARF). Ratio between arterial partial pressure of oxygen (PaO2) and fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO2), P/F, is currently used as a marker of ARF severity in Covid-19. P/F does not reflect the respiratory efforts made by patients to maintain arterial blood oxygenation, such as tachypnea and hyperpnea, leading to hypocapnia.

Article Synopsis
  • Myelofibrosis (MF) is a blood disorder within the group of Philadelphia-negative myeloproliferative neoplasms, which can either occur as primary (PMF) or secondary (SMF) types due to other conditions like polycythemia vera (PV) or essential thrombocythemia (ET).
  • Recent research focused on analyzing gene expression profiles (GEPs) in granulocytes from 114 MF patients, revealing 201 gene transcripts linked to survival risk and patient outcomes.
  • The study found that high-risk patients identified by these gene signatures experienced worse overall survival and leukemia-free survival, highlighting the potential of GEPs as a significant tool for better prognostic assessment in clinical settings.

Splenomegaly is a key clinical manifestation of myelofibrosis, and splenectomy is currently indicated in patients with drug refractory, symptomatic splenomegaly or with the aim of improving refractory cytopenias. Transformation to acute myeloid leukemia occurs in up to 20% of patients with myelofibrosis, while cases of myeloid sarcoma have been reported very unfrequently. In this manuscript, we report the case of a 60-year-old man with a history of primary myelofibrosis who underwent splenectomy because of drug-refractory massive splenomegaly, systemic symptoms and anemia.
