Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is the leading cause of chronic kidney disease. Current treatments for DKD do not halt renal injury progression, highlighting an urgent need for therapies targeting key disease mechanisms. Our previous studies demonstrated that activating the Sigma-1 receptor (S1R) with fluvoxamine (FLU) protects against acute kidney injury by inhibiting inflammation and ameliorating the effect of hypoxia.

The present study examines the training environment and sponsorship dynamics in Hungarian artistic swimming, with a particular focus on competitiveness. Through the utilization of a linear regression method ample aspects were identified, such as coach qualifications, funding sources, and facilities, that positively impact the number of qualified competitors. The availability of funding sources, when coupled with governmental assistance, has a favorable effect on the number of competitors, whereas membership fees have a deleterious impact.

Introduction: A lung cancer screening program using low dose CT (LDCT) in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Central Texas was developed and assessed for equitable implementation.

Methods: From 11/2020-8/2023, patients aged 55-77 years who currently smoked or quit within 15 years with ≥20 pack-years of exposure were identified through EHR query and mailed outreach, or through direct provider referrals. A bilingual social worker confirmed eligibility, provided telecare shared decision-making (SDM), coordinated screening, and offered smoking cessation.

Background: Realistic cancer treatment goals should be used by health care professionals and communicated to patients, families, and the public. The current nomenclature on this subject is outdated and has not been changed since the advent of modern oncology in the middle of the 20th century.

Methods: Based on the literature we propose a three-tier system composed of curative, palliative, and potentially life-prolonging (PLP) therapies, instead of the current two-tier system of only curative and palliative treatment.
