Modulatory neurotransmitters exert powerful control over neurons and the brain vasculature. Gamma Entrainment Using Sensory Stimuli (GENUS) promotes amyloid clearance via increased perivascular cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) flux in mouse models of Alzheimer's Disease. Here we use whole-brain activity mapping to identify the cholinergic basal forebrain as a key region responding to GENUS.

Gut hormones control intestinal function, metabolism and appetite, and have been harnessed therapeutically to treat type 2 diabetes and obesity. Our understanding of the enteroendocrine axis arises largely from animal studies, but intestinal organoid models make it possible to identify, genetically modify and purify human enteroendocrine cells (EECs). This study aimed to map human EECs using single-cell RNA sequencing.

The great pond snail Lymnaea stagnalis has served as a model organism for over a century in diverse disciplines such as neurophysiology, evolution, ecotoxicology and developmental biology. To support both established uses and newly emerging research interests we have performed whole genome sequencing (avg.176 × depth), assembly and annotation of a single individual derived from an inbred line.

Article Synopsis
  • Spillover from wild animals threatens human health, with few successful global solutions, one of which is the use of oral vaccines for rabies in certain regions.
  • There's interest in developing 'transmissible' vaccines that can spread immunity among wildlife, but they raise environmental concerns due to potential release of genetically modified viruses.
  • The study proposes a method to control the stability of these vaccines' genetic material, allowing for better management and fine-tuning of their lifespan in wild animal populations through specific genetic adjustments.
