Background: Emerging data suggest an association between left atrial (LA) enlargement, thrombus formation, and ischemic stroke. However, it is unknown what may mediate such clot formation in LA dysfunction. Neutrophils promote large vessel occlusion and microthrombosis via neutrophil extracellular trap (NET) release, thus lying at the interface of inflammation, thrombosis, and fibrosis.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the histopathological concordance rates between prostate biopsies and radical prostatectomy specimens according to the applied biopsy approach (transrectal or transperineal).

Methods: We studied patients who had been newly diagnosed with clinically significant prostate cancer and who underwent a radical prostatectomy between 2018 and 2022. Patients were included if they underwent a prebiopsy magnetic resonance imaging and if they had not been previously treated for prostate cancer.

Article Synopsis
  • European Association of Urology guidelines suggest a risk-adjusted biopsy approach for detecting prostate cancer in men who haven't had a biopsy before, but the effectiveness of different strategies is still uncertain.
  • This study compared the effectiveness of two pathways: a risk-based ultrasound-directed approach and a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-directed approach in biopsy-naïve men suspected of having prostate cancer.
  • Results showed that both methods detected similar rates of significant cancers, but the ultrasound approach found more low-grade cancers, whereas the MRI method was more effective in avoiding unnecessary biopsies.

Background: Prior research suggests that the proportion of a shockable initial rhythm in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) declined during the last decades. This study aims to investigate if this decline is still ongoing and explore the relationship between location of OHCA and proportion of a shockable initial rhythm as initial rhythm.

Methods: We calculated the proportion of patients with a shockable initial rhythm between 2006-2015 using pooled data from the COSTA-group (Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, Amsterdam).

Introduction: Iodine-124 positron emission tomography/computed tomography (I PET/CT) is increasingly being used in the absorbed dose estimation in the radioiodine treatment of differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). However, the produced prompt gamma coincidences (PGCs) associated with the I decay result in a bias in the absorbed dose estimation. The impact of a sinogram-based PGC correction approach on the absorbed dose estimation in I PET/CT DTC imaging is investigated.
