How amino acids intercalate in CaFe layered double hydroxides: A combined RIXS and NEXAFS study.

Two-dimensional layered double hydroxides (LDHs) are ideal candidates for a large number of (bio)catalytic applications due to their flexible composition and easy to tailor properties. Functionality can be achieved by intercalation of amino acids (as the basic units of peptides and proteins). To gain insight on the functionality, we apply resonant inelastic soft x-ray scattering and near edge x-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy to CaFe LDH in its pristine form as well as intercalated with the amino acids proline and cysteine to probe the electronic structure and its changes upon intercalation.

A Prospective Study on the Feasibility and Effect of an Optimized Perioperative Care Protocol in Pediatric Neuromuscular Scoliosis Surgery.

: A recent retrospective study conducted by our team identified a high percentage of postoperative pneumonia in children with neuromuscular scoliosis. Based on the findings in that study and our clinical experience, we aimed to assess the effectiveness of an optimized perioperative care protocol. : As part of a prospective study, a multidisciplinary team developed a protocol that included preoperative nutritional and respiratory optimization, intra- and postoperative intravenous glucose infusion, early extubation, and postoperative nutritional optimization.

Infrastructuring precision medicine: Making gene therapies for rare diseases workable in practice.

Long viewed by social scientists as a future imaginary, precision medicine is now materializing in many healthcare systems in the form of new diagnostic practices and novel treatment modalities, such as gene therapies. Based on an ethnographic study of the introduction of the first two clinically available in-vivo gene therapies in the Danish healthcare system, we investigate what it takes to make these therapies workable in practice. Drawing on social science literature on infrastructuring, we describe the many forms of mundane work required to fit these therapies into regulatory frameworks, political processes and daily work practices in the healthcare system.

Burden of Disease of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in Denmark - A National Register-Based Study of Individuals with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and their Closest Relatives.

Background: Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is a progressive genetic disease with a prevalence of 1 per 3,600-6,000 male births. Individuals with DMD are typically diagnosed at age 4-7 years; median survival is 30 years. They require multidisciplinary care, personal assistance, and often special education.

Tacrolimus monitoring in hair samples of kidney transplant recipients.

Background: Calcineurin inhibitors, including tacrolimus, remain a cornerstone of immunosuppressive therapy after kidney transplantation. However, the therapeutic window is narrow, and nephrotoxic side effects occur with overdose, while the risk of alloimmunization and graft rejection increases with underdose. Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) allows quantification of tacrolimus in biological samples from patients.
