A hitherto unknown modification of IO was obtained from high-pressure/high-temperature syntheses in a Walker-type multianvil device at 8 GPa and 250 °C. HP-IO crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system with space group P2/c (no. 14) with the unit cell parameters a=12.

By using scanning tunnelling potentiometry we characterized the lateral variation of the electrochemical potential µec on the gold-induced Ge(001)-c(8 × 2)-Au surface reconstruction while a lateral current flows through the sample. On the reconstruction and across domain boundaries we find that µec shows a constant gradient as a function of the position between the contacts. In addition, nanoscale Au clusters on the surface do not show an electronic coupling to the gold-induced surface reconstruction.

Aims: To evaluate the short-, mid- and long-term safety, efficacy and vascular physiology of Axetis silicon dioxide (SiO2, abrading the micropores) inert-coated stent implantation in a randomised preclinical setting.

Methods And Results: Coronary arteries of domestic pigs were randomised to receive either Axetis or BMS (same design) stents with one-, three- and six-month follow-up (FUP), controlled by coronary angiography, optical coherence tomography (OCT), intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and histology (n=32). The time-dependent vasomotor reaction of coronary arteries to stenting was measured using modified myography (n=12).

The flavivirus fusion protein E contains a "stem" region which is hypothesized to be crucial for driving fusion. This sequence element connects the ectodomain to the membrane anchor, and its structure in the trimeric postfusion conformation is still poorly defined. Using E trimers of tick-borne encephalitis virus with stem truncations of different lengths, we show that the N-terminal part of the stem increases trimer stability and also modulates the trimer structure outside the stem interaction site.

Objectives: This study sought to determine the time dependency of the endothelium-dependent and -independent vascular responses after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with drug-eluting (DEB) or plain balloons, bare-metal (BMS), and drug-eluting (DES) stents, or controls.

Background: Long-term endothelial dysfunction after DES implantation is associated with delayed healing and late thrombosis.

Methods: Domestic pigs underwent PCI using DEB or plain balloon, BMS, or DES.
