Functional specialization of MITF, TFEB and TFE3 drives radically distinct adaptive gene expression programs in melanoma.

Within cells multiple related transcription factors targeting the same sequences may co-exist, leading to potential regulatory cooperativity, redundancy or competition. Yet the differential roles and biological functions of co-targeting transcription factors is poorly understood. In melanoma, three highly-related transcription factors are co-expressed: The mTORC1-regulated TFEB and TFE3, that are key effectors of a wide range of metabolic and microenvironmental cues; and MITF, that controls melanoma phenotypic identity.

Elevated cell-free hemoglobin: A novel early biomarker following traumatic injury.

Background: Cell-free hemoglobin (CFH) and free heme are potent mediators of endotheliopathy and organ injury in sepsis, but their roles in other hemolytic pathologies are not well-defined. A prime example is trauma where early hemolysis may initiate damage and predict outcome. Here, we investigated the presence of plasma CFH, heme, and their major scavengers after traumatic injury.

Crural Diaphragm Density in Respiratory Complications after Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery Lobectomy.

Background:  Respiratory muscle strength affects pulmonary function after lung resection; however, the role of diaphragm density, an emerging index of muscle quality, remains unexplored. We investigated the role of crural diaphragm density (CDD) in respiratory complications (RC) after video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) lobectomy for lung cancer.

This analysis aims to describe the care pathways of patients with central nervous system (Cns) tumors during the last 30 days of life, using relevant indicators retrieved from regional healthcare information system data, compare these indicators with those of patients who died from other solid tumors, and assess the role of socioeconomic position (Sep) in accessing end-of-life care among Cns patients. The study included 2,795 patients who died from Cns tumors between 2015 and 2019. In the last 30 days of life, compared to the solid tumor cohort, Cns patients had less access to emergency services and hospitalizations.

Maintenance immunosuppressive therapy in liver transplantation: results from CESIT study, an Italian retrospective cohort study.

Objectives: To investigate the use of maintenance immunosuppressive treatments following liver transplantation and to compare their risk-benefit profiles in clinical practice.
