An animal's body mass is said to be indirectly related to its rate of heat loss; that is, smaller animals with higher surface area to volume tend to lose heat faster than larger animals. Thus, thermoregulation should be related to body size, however, generalizable patterns are still unclear. Domestic dogs are a diverse species of endothermic mammals, including a 44-fold difference in body size.

Benchtop Machining of Self-Standing Alumina Doughs for Low-Number Fabrication and Prototyping.

Cold isostatic pressing, gel casting, and protein coagulation are the most common techniques to produce green bodies prior to computer numerical control (CNC)-based machining for the near-net-scale shaping of ceramics. These methods typically involve various additives and entail several steps to create a green body that is capable of withstanding machining forces. Here, utilizing a single additive, we first introduced a facile benchtop method to generate self-standing, malleable doughs of alumina in under 2 min.

Sex- and Substance-Specific Associations of Circadian-Related Genes with Addiction in the UK Biobank Cohort Implicate Neuroplasticity Pathways.

Background/objectives: The circadian clockwork is implicated in the etiology of addiction, with circadian rhythm disruptions bidirectionally linked to substance abuse, but the molecular mechanisms that underlie this connection are not well known.

Methods: Here, we use machine learning to reveal sex- and substance-specific associations with addiction in variants from 51 circadian-related genes (156,702 SNPs) in 98,800 participants from a UK Biobank cohort. We further analyze SNP associations in a subset of the cohort for substance-specific addictions (alcohol, illicit drugs (narcotics), and prescription drugs (opioids)).

Adaptation of the Shirom-Melamed Burnout Measure in Parents of Turkish Pediatric Oncology Patients.

Objectives: This study was conducted to adapt the Shirom-Melamed Burnout Measure (SMBM) in parents of Turkish pediatric oncology patients.

Methods: This methodological and descriptive study was conducted with 184 parents of pediatric oncology patients from December 2023 to July 2024. Data was collected face to face interviews via an information form and the SMBM.
