Article Synopsis
  • The HypoCOMPaSS study aimed to see if avoiding biochemical hypoglycemia could help participants with type 1 diabetes regain awareness of hypoglycemia to prevent severe episodes.
  • A total of 96 adults with impaired hypoglycemia awareness underwent a 24-week trial, of which 71 were analyzed for severe hypoglycemia recurrence over two years.
  • Results showed that complete responders had fewer severe hypoglycemic events and better hypoglycemic awareness compared to incomplete responders, who also demonstrated higher rates of anxiety and peripheral neuropathy.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on preventing severe hypoglycemia in adults with type 1 diabetes through enhanced self-management techniques over 24 weeks.
  • Participants experienced improved awareness of hypoglycemia, with significant reductions in severe hypoglycemia episodes and improved HbA1c levels sustained for up to 24 months post-intervention.
  • The results suggest that structured education combined with effective insulin delivery and monitoring should be standardized for individuals with impaired hypoglycemia awareness.

Hypoglycemia is associated with increased cardiovascular mortality in trials of intensive therapy in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We previously observed an increase in arrhythmias during spontaneous prolonged hypoglycemia in patients with T2DM. We examined changes in cardiac autonomic function and repolarization during sustained experimental hypoglycemia.

Unlabelled: Secondary amenorrhoea and galactorrhoea represent a common endocrine presentation. We report a case of an oestrogen-producing juvenile granulosa cell tumour (JGCT) of the ovary in a 16-year-old post-pubertal woman with hyperprolactinaemia amenorrhoea and galactorrhoea which resolved following surgical resection of the tumour. This patient presented with a 9-month history of secondary amenorrhoea and a 2-month history of galactorrhoea.
