Mol-ecular structure of tris-[(6-bromo-pyridin-2-yl)meth-yl]amine.

Coordination compounds of polydentate nitro-gen ligands with metals are used extensively in research areas such as catalysis, and as models of complex active sites of enzymes in bioinorganic chemistry. Tris(2-pyridyl-meth-yl)amine (TPA) is a tripodal tetra-dentate ligand that is known to form coordination compounds with metals, including copper, iron and zinc. The related compound, tris-[(6-bromo-pyridin-2-yl)meth-yl]amine (TPABr), CHBrN, which possesses a bromine atom on the 6-position of each of the three pyridyl moieties, is also known but has not been heavily investigated.

Why do understorey palm fruits turn from red to white and then black when ripe?

Becc., a tropical forest understorey palm, is observed to have fruits that appear red in colour when unripe, turning pink, then white, purple and finally black in colour as they ripen. We monitored 13 fruiting palms in rainforest fragments and recorded the consumption of fruits by animals via camera traps.

Experimental Search for Invisible Dark Matter Axions around 22 μeV.

The axion has emerged as the most attractive solution to two fundamental questions in modern physics related to the charge-parity invariance in strong interactions and the invisible matter component of our Universe. Over the past decade, there have been many theoretical efforts to constrain the axion mass based on various cosmological assumptions. Interestingly, different approaches from independent groups produce good overlap between 20 and 30  μeV.

Driving performance of long-term users of sedating antidepressants and benzodiazepines.

Objective: Using benzodiazepines and certain antidepressants is associated with an increased risk of motor vehicle crashes due to impaired driving skills. Hence, several countries prohibit people who use these drugs from driving. Traffic regulations for driving under the influence of these drugs are, however, largely based on single-dose studies with healthy participants.

Initial micafungin treatment does not improve outcomes compared to fluconazole treatment in immunocompromised and critically ill patients with candidaemia.

Background: Candidaemia is associated with poor outcomes including high mortality rates. Controversy remains regarding whether fluconazole or an echinocandin is the optimal choice for initial candidaemia treatment, particularly among high-risk patients such as the immunocompromised or critically ill.
