Background: Over a century ago, Virchow proposed that cancer represents a chronically inflamed, poorly healing wound. Normal wound healing is represented by a transitory phase of inflammation, followed by a pro-resolution phase, with prostaglandin (PGE2/PGD2)-induced 'lipid class switching' producing inflammation-quenching lipoxins (LXA4, LXB4).
Objective: We explored if lipid dysregulation in colorectal cancers (CRCs) is driven by a failure to resolve inflammation.
Next-generation sequencing technologies have not only defined a breakthrough in medical genetics, but also been able to enter routine clinical practice to determine individual genetic susceptibilities. Modern technological developments are routinely introduced to genetic analysis overtaking the established approaches, potentially raising a number of challenges. To what extent is the advantage of new methodologies in synthetic metrics, such as precision and recall, more important than stability and reproducibility? Could differences in the technical protocol for calling variants be crucial to the diagnosis and, by extension, the patient's treatment strategy? A regulatory review process may delay the incorporation of potentially beneficial technologies, resulting in missed opportunities to make the right medical decisions.

Cardiomyocytes derived from human-induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSC-CMs) offer an attractive platform to evaluate the mechanisms of cardiovascular-related incidents and to develop and test new drugs for heart diseases. This work focuses on the comparison of two hiPSC-CM differentiation protocols: the GiWi method based on temporal modulation of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway and the commercially available PSC Cardiomyocyte Differentiation Kit. We underlined the need to optimize several parameters such as cell density or small molecule concentration (CHIR-99021, IWR-1) to obtain functional hiPSC-CMs.

The ethnic diversity and geographic origins, which extend from eastern Europe to Asia, make the population uniquely positioned to investigate the shared properties of inherited disease risks between European and Asian ancestries. We present the analysis of genetic and phenotypic data from a cohort of 4,145 individuals collected in three metro areas in western Russia.
