The study aimed to assess how nurses handle the death of pediatric patients and explore the impact of sociodemographic factors on their coping strategies.
Conducted in a tertiary pediatric hospital in Barcelona, the research involved a questionnaire focused on personal coping mechanisms and sociodemographic data, revealing that about one-third of nurses struggled with coping.
Results indicated that nurses in pediatric palliative care coped better with death, while work shifts, recent personal loss, and prior training affected coping effectiveness; however, many expressed a need for additional training and interdisciplinary discussions for better support.
